problem when setting home layout in child theme (nr of columns)

In the child theme, when I set the number of columns to 4 and activate the child theme only 3 are shown ? Similarly, when I set the number of columns to 3 only 2 are shown etc.
In the original theme this was not a problem. It only happens after creating a child theme following the instructions below:
