Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

I’m experiencing the same problem.
Just deactivated all plugins, and switched to Twenty Fifteen, but the problem persists.

When I try to upload an image file, the thumbnail from the media library screen is a gray box, and when I look at the Attachment Details, the area where the image preview usually appears is completely blank. The images are also not appearing when added to a content or widget module, and are bringing over some strange formatting into the image class area. Here’s what I’m seeing there:

<img class=”alignnone size-full wp-image-113 aqacudejjvowblbnhkie” src=”https://4crp.dmlwsdev.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Banner-Ad-960×150.jpg” alt=”Banner-Ad-960×150″ width=”960″ height=”150″ />

It doesn’t appear to be a theme or a plugin conflict.

Thanks for your help!

The image itself loads, and that HTML should be fine. Can you please give us a link to the post or page with the problem?

Thank you James. It worked!

It was a video connect plugin which was causing a conflict with the new WordPress 4.4 platform.

You’re welcome!

Hi there – still experiencing the issue.
Here’s a link to the dev site where you can check this out:
https://wptest.dmlwsdev.com/

In the default “Hello World” post you can’t see the image, but if you look at the code you can see it there.

Same in the media library – the image is showing a gray box when uploaded, and when you view the image details, the image preview is blank.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting https://whatbrowser.org/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

Wow, thanks. I will certainly look into that.

I’ll follow up here with what I find out.

You’re welcome!

Ta-dah! It was, indeed, a browser extension.
All better now.

Thank you again for helping me troubleshoot that.

Glad to help! ??

Hi James,

I am having the exact same problem. I tried deactivating plugins and deleting my browsers cache and cookies, but it didn’t really work. Whatelse can I do? Everytime I try to upload an image, it shows the image logo and no image.
