• hi there!

i’ve got some serious issues on my wordpress site. i’ll make it short:
    – i run wordpress 3.2.1 and don’t want to upgrade because i’ve customized a lot.
    – the server is a windows nt
    – none of the plugins or the theme causes the issue. i tried to deactivate every plugin and changed the theme to twentyten. didnt help
    – i couldn’t figure out whats causing the issue with firebug, pagespeed and several other tools
    – not even google can help me
    – i know the site not really seo-friendly and stuff. but the ~10sec timetofirstbyte makes it really hard to work on that.

is there a way to figure the problem out? could it be a sql-problem? there is about 400mb of data. is it the site or the server?
i hope anyone can give me a tipp where to look at :/
    sincerely, emsi

  • Without being an expert on the issue, it is probably server configuration issue.

thanks for the reply, voldy! but how can i figure out whats wrong with the server?

I would first work on reducing the size of your images loading 1.2MB of images from any server is going to be slow, especially if many hits….I would make a simple home page and have that clearly suggest your visitors to see the more heavy page.

You also do not have compression on or client browser caching. It is important to read up on these for an IIS7 website.

but is this the problem? compression and client browser caching? i dont think that this causes ~10sec timetofirstbyte. also most of the images are hosted at imageshack. but i am aware, that i have to downsize the images. the categories with nearly none pictures are having the same issue, not just the main page. –> https://www.play-cast.de/forum/
i think i have to read into this IIS7 stuff i never heard about ^^ or change to linux/apache.

btw: i’ve got to say, that i’m really impressed ?? i’ve expected to get an answer up in one week or more. or people telling me to solve my problems myself. never thought, that anyone would actually be willing to help me! so far… thx!

    Good luck!

so i just canceled my server and will change to a root server with linux/apache. i hope it will work out fine for me and the community. i think its quite hard for ~700 members in my community and i want to make it comfortable to reach my website ??
