• Hi,

I’m running the latest version of WordPress and want to change the theme I’m using. However I don’t want to take the blog down at all and so have set up a test domain. I have copied over wp-content, wp-themes and wp-includes to this new test domain and the blog now works as before on the test domain.

but if i try and change the theme on the test blog, it changes on my main domain too. i think this is because i am logging into the same wordpress dashboard regardless of which domain i am on.

any ideaas on how to resolve this?

  • youre sharing the same database tables between the 2 sites — theme info is stored in the database, just like everything else.

You need to set up a seperate database and run the second site off of the second database so your information is stored seperately instead of together. Make sense?

nah, you dont need to do that.

just name the folder of the theme you want to try out to whatever the theme being used on the real site is.

for instance, say youre using classic on the real site.

delete the classic theme on the hidden site, and use THAT dir name for the new themes, instead of the names the authors give them.
