    Hello –

For some reason the Apple News Publisher plugin for WordPress is no longer pushing articles out. Is there something that can remedy the problem?

    Thanks very much.

We need more information to be able to help you out. Can you answer a few questions:

    1. When did it stop?
    2. Did this correlate to any changes on your end, like a WordPress core upgrade, or installing a new theme or plugin(s)?
    3. Are you seeing any error messages in the dashboard?
    4. Are you seeing any PHP error messages in your logs? (Please ask your web host to help you find these if you don’t know where they are.

    Thanks.

    Hi;

    To answer your questions:

    1. I believe the plugin stopped pushing articles out about month ago

    2. No new plugins have been installed, save for the usual updates

    3. No error messages visible in the dashboard. Custom Fields area of post(s) shows several values relating to Apple News (I can send you a screen shot). In the Apple News dashboard, most of my posts show that they have been Published; one post indicates it needs to be updated (which I did via the WordPress edit mode).

    4. I checked the <<errordocs>> directory on my host server, and nothing has been generated (a) recently and (b) of relevance to Apple News

Thank you again for looking into this.

Are you scheduling posts to go to Apple News or publishing manually? If manually, are you publishing from the edit post screen or from the Apple News list?

Are none of these methods working or just some of them?

    Good morning, Brad –

Originally I had to publish my articles manually via my Apple News channel. Then I was able to publish them through the Apple News list, until the plugin began to push them out automatically. Recently however the plugin functionality has been problematic, where sometimes I don not have the option to click Publish in the News List. Therefore now I must go directly to Apple and create the articles there.

Hope this helps. Thank you again.

Not really enough info to go on here. Are you seeing any errors in your PHP logs or the WordPress dashboard? Can you show me a screenshot of the issue?

    Thanks.

    Hello, Brad:

Here’s a screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/Ohv53. As you can see, the article at the top indicates “Pending” in the Sync Status. So I had no choice but to publish the article directly through the Apple News Publisher interface.

I also triple checked my plugin settings, all of which appear to be set correctly to enable automatic publishing of my posts:

    Automatically publish to Apple News
    Automatically update Apple News
    Asynchronously publish to Apple News

I also see that the plugin is compatible with WordPress version 4.6.1, whereas I have installed the latest update (4.7). In any case, I had been experiencing problems with the plugin prior to updating WordPress.

    Thank you again.

You really need to check your PHP error logs. Sounds like something is going wrong there.

There is nothing in there to indicate an issue with Apple News. Unfortunately, I’m not sure what we can do to help you at this point since we don’t have enough information to look into this issue.

Hi; I downloaded this plugin a couple of weeks ago and not been able to get it to publish to Apple News at all.

Are you aware of a standard problem currently?

    Thanks

There is no “standard problem”. This plugin is actively in use on thousands of sites.

Can you please describe what troubleshooting steps you’ve taken thus far?

Not being a developer, i have just been looking at various forums and read the apple support docs, which have so far drawn a blank.

I have various long emails generated from the site entitled ‘Apple News Notification’ inc various data that i don’t understand

Can you please use pastebin and share some of those emails here for posts that aren’t publishing? The point of those emails is literally for us to assist you in troubleshooting. We understand the information included.

Sure, here’s the results form one of them…. https://pastebin.com/erBrbWkc

Thanks. That allowed us to immediately identify your issue.

You have a setting called “Use Remote Images” set to “yes” which means that Apple tries to retrieve all the images in your article from their servers for publishing to Apple News. However, that means that your images must be publicly available with no issues.

If I go to any of the images in your article, I am getting an invalid certificate error, such as: https://cycled.cc/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Limits_Power_meter_hero.jpg. This is causing their API to fail and it’s unable to pull in your images and is therefore rejecting your post.

You should reach out to your web host immediately to help resolve this issue. You can also try setting “Use Remote Images” to “no” in the meantime though we do strongly recommend you get this issue resolved.

    Thanks.
