I’m an aspiring WordPress developer. I’m trying to get WordPress installed locally for the first time. I’m using a PC, I have XAMPP installed and was following a tutorial to get WordPress installed locally.

When I get to the WordPress install screen where you enter your site title and user name and whatnot, after I hit the “Install WordPress” buttom at the bottom the next page loads and is just a WordPress logo with a thin empty white rectangle under it instead of the success screen I’m supposed to see. But when I try and go back or refresh the page I get a page with this message:

“You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.”

So I go to the WordPress log in page for my site and try to log in and it tells my user name and email are invalid? Somebody please help. ??

What version of XAMPP are you using?

    What OS are you running?

Can you post a screenshot of the screen you get after you “Install WordPress”

XAMPP is the latest version, just downloaded yesterday.

    OS is Windows 7.

Didn’t manage to screenshot the screen. But it just has a WordPress logo at the top, and then an empty white div that spans the page width but has no content in it.

Tried it again and same issue. I even deleted and re-downloaded WordPress.

Here is a screenshot of the page I get when I click “Install WordPress”:

Any help would be greatly appreciated ??

One thing I can think of would be using XAMPP with PHP version 5.4 and not 5.5.

I’m not sure if you are running the latest stable version (3.8.1) or if you are trying to run on development version. ??
