• I just installed the SEO 1 plugin and when I tried to activate it I was greeted with this message:

“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Warning: fopen(/home/catwingz/findable-design.com/wp-content/plugins/seo-1/wds-files/wds-sitemaps/protect.txt) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/catwingz/findable-design.com/wp-content/plugins/seo-1/seo1.php on line 114
    can’t open file”

    Line 114 says:
    $fh = fopen($myFile, ‘w’) or die(“can’t open file”);

I don’t know php well enough to sort this out. I am suspecting that this is a permissions issue, but I’m not sure which files/directories I should be targeting. On a previous blog I used “all in one SEO pack” but found that it’s setup for this site was blocked in other ways. When I found that support has dried up for that one I thought I would switch…

I am using a child theme of Shell Lite. If someone can help me sort this out it would be great. Thank you!

  • does it install script or any form of code anywhere else within the site directory tree.

Thanks for all of the posts too guys, good to see that the community is healthy and helpful.

Is there a page on the site where these types of notices are posted about plugins?

    Cheers

larotech – the files were inside the plugin folder itself.

There isn’t a page where we list actions taken. Plugins like this are very rare and most action we ask plugin authors to take is due to an oversight or misunderstanding on their part.

    Thanks Mark,

What was the plugin actually doing? Should I go and check any of the blacklist or the like to see if the domain has been bared anywhere?

    Cheers

Your domain would not have been barred.
All you need to do is delete the plugin folder.

If the issue with the plugin was resolved, can you please mark as resolved?

The issue is resolved in that the plugin has been removed from the site and once deleted it has no hanging code left in the directory structure (which was my concern).

So the short answer is: “don’t install it, if you have delete it!”

Cheers and thanks for the help guys.
