When update any post that post should come in last sitemap.xml as yoast do.

    Problem Example:
    There are 100 sitemap.xml exit.
I update “abc post” and “abc post” exist in sitemap_post3.xml
Logically, now “abc post” should come in sitemap_post100.xml (Its doing in yoast) but not in yours.

    Reason:
    As per my understanding.
    1. Search engine will understand sitemap has updated.
    2. I can easily ping manually (sitemap_post100.xml). Otherwise very hard to find where is exist in sitemap*.xml “abc post”.

Hope my point understand and implement in next update.

    Thanks.
