Problem getting rid of /wp extension

Hi i have completed creating my site and called for admin support with local vendor who supplied the option of moving contents from the wp folder to the root folder in c-panel. I tried this and most features were not working the site was a mess. I managed to retrieve all the original work from back up that he did. Is there a safer and easier way to migrate my site and get rid of the wp extension?
