• Example of my problem:

This is about the feature ‘Display name publicly as’ and can be set in when wp-admin/profile.php runs. This feature can help you choose either your username, name + lastname, or a nickname. This then shows as selected in the comments when you reply to blogs as a ‘name’ of a person who left the comment.

***Note, I have only registered users who can leave comments.

In my view it can lead to confusion (unless I am slow and missing a point):

Say, I have a user with a username ‘Alex’, he is set to show publicly in the profile what his username is – Alex.
Then I have another user with a username ‘Blah’ but he is showing his nickname ‘Alex’ publicly through settings in the profile…

Now, I would have 2 Alex on my board as authors of comments. Who is who? WP does not seem to match if there is another user who is showing to be under a same identity. I am afraid I will have some users ‘stealing’ what should be unique names of others…

Any comment? Am I missing something? I would expect the name that would ‘Display name publicly as’ to be unique!

    Thanks.

  • I’ve had this exact same problem, and it’s led to registered users spamming and making inappropriate comments. A solution to this would be greatly appreciated.

I’m also looking to do a similar thing, but what i want to do is disable the user from setting the ‘display name publicly as’ field altogether. So, only the Admin would have control on how to set that.

Has anyone found a solution to this issue? I would also like to disable the use of “Display name publicly as” or disable the editing of Nickname, First Name and Last Name altogether by users.

    Thanks in advance!
