• Hello all,

This is my first post here and I’m not an WordPress expert or even experienced with WP so please be patient.

I’ve been asked by a friend of mine to try and sort out a problem on her site. It’s an odd one to say the least. She’s created a page with hyperlinks to link out to other sites with her stuff on them, the links are correctly entered but they don’t work properly.

One of the links is to a Redbubble shop the link as entered is:

    https://www.redbubble.com/people/thegiftshed/shop?asc=u

However, the link generated by WordPress is malformed – hovering over the link shows:

    https://www.redbubble.com/people/th.giftshed/shop?asc=u

I’ve tried a few variations and it seems a simple link like https://google.co.uk works fine and cutting the Redbubble link down to https://www.redbubble.com will work properly too. The moment anything else is added the problem returns.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance ??

Are you sure that was an e and not an accented version?

Yes I’ve typed it afresh a few times just in case.

The orginal link was supplied by Redbubble I believe.

    Definitely works for me: https://www.loom.com/share/956ad9e6ead946bebd046361dbbb09d4

    Resulting link is https://www.redbubble.com/people/thegiftshed/shop?asc=u

So it’s likely that you’ve got a funky “e” situation.

That’s odd. The link was originally typed by my friend on her PC. I’ve typed (edited) it on my laptop and a separate desktop machine into a separate private test page on the site. That’s three machines so whatever’s happening has to be on the hosting server WordPress instance.

Also, surely a funky ‘e’ would have prevented google.co.uk working or even redbubble.com?

It only happens on the ‘thegiftshed’ portion of the link – weird or what ??

Thanks for looking at it ??

FWIW, I copied/pasted your link from above.

That was my laptop so I know it’s not that which rather confirms that the problem’s in the WordPress instance.

I’ve got a temporary fix by using tinyurl – not ideal but it works for now. I’d like to get to the bottom of this though so if it’s ok by you I’ll leave the post open – maybe someone will have an ‘aha’ moment.

Thanks for looking at it ??
