I’m coming up on my 2-year mark with Bluehost. Up until 3 or 4 months ago, there had been absolutely no problems with them. However, within the past 4 months I have had problems with my site suddenly going off line, and I can’t even log into my Dashboard. The “cause” of the problems has varied slightly, but mostly the alert is that there are too many accesses to my site. I found that unbelievable as I only average about 100 hits a day, and on the weekend it is generally much less.

In the beginning, the problem was only on Sunday’s, mostly in the afternoons, and it was intermittent. That’s when I contacted Bluehost the first time. All I got for about 8 or 10 exchanges was excuses. Then I got fed up and “laid down the law” so to speak. It was then that I heard from a senior technician who said they were having trouble with a new backup system they had designed, and that was causing my problem. He said the problem should only occur during their Sunday backups. So I agreed to work with them until it could be fixed. But then it started happening on Saturdays. This time, my site was off the air for more than 8 hours. So I contacted them again and was told to install a cache plugin, which I did. That worked at the time. But since then I have had two or three short interruptions.

I am wondering if they have suddenly started throttling their customers. If so, then it has to be set on a percentage of normal traffic, since my traffic is already very low, especially on the weekends when the problem occurs. Or, in an effort to save money, they are overloading their servers. But what ever it is, I can not see putting up with it.

So my question is, are there others with Bluehost that are experiencing similar problems? If so, have you hear of a solution or end to this? If not, I will be looking for a new host before my current subscription with Bluehost expires.

PS: I have EVERYTHING updated, including WordPress, plugins, theme, etc. As soon as an update comes out on ANYTHING, I update.

    Thanks for all feedback.

  • Hello!

Are the problems remaining? In this case, have you found any other host?
I am looking for a good host and don’t want to have any problems!

    Thanks!

I’ve had nothing but great experiences with them, although I’m going to add the caveat that you need to know what you’re doing with WordPress on Bluehost to make it run smoothly.

It’s not a fault with BH, they’re a good host (especially for the money) and it’s not WP but it’s (imho) a problem with how BlueHost throttles WordPress during peak periods. It’s easy to get over with the right caching scripts.

I left them about 2 month ago and have been happy ever since, I found hostgator to be better in uptime guarantee and true to their word and their costumer service is superb with knowledgeable staff. Hostgator has a 20% coupon and just for the motivation to move, I will offer you a $50 rebate along with the 20% off coupon, more info can be found HERE

    Christopher Ross, Thank you!
I ended up with ANhosting. It works smooth this far!

Kimmichaelp: Why did you leave them? Regarding ‘uptime guarantee’: Do you have an objective measurements?

Same thing applies for DIS-Recommendations alas.
