Hi – I hit the upgrade button in the uodates sectionnof dashboard even though the site was up to date…. stupid me….

No when I go to wp-admin all I get is

    https://www.kentonbar.org.uk/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F

And a message that says in the page:-

    “No Update Required

Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!”

I have cleared the cache, restarted the browser but cannot get pas that page. Pressing continue just brings me back to the main site and trying to login to wp-admin – the same….

  • hi there,
If you have either an FTP or Control Panel login for your hosting server you could try renaming the .htaccess file in your site’s WordPress directory.

Renaming it to OLD.htaccess, for example, will temporarily disable it and may allow you to login.

    I will try that thanks.

That worked – logged in a logged out again renamed the .htaccess back to normal and now it works again… Thanks.

    Great, glad to have helped

I’m having the same problem, but renaming the .htaccess file isn’t resolving it. When I try to access the dashboard I still get the screen saying my database is up to date and a Continue button that takes me back to my site’s front page.

    Suggestions?

    hi Les,
Are you renaming the right .htaccess file? It should be in the root WordPress directory i.e. the same directory as wp-config.php etc.
    Dan

Yep, that’s the one I renamed.

I’ve tried disabling all the plugins an clearing the Varnish cache to no avail.

Did you rename .htaccess to something like old.htaccess then reload yoursite.com/wp-admin?

If so and that didn’t help you could try logging in with a different browser, or in a private window.

Beyond that I’m not sure of the cause I’m afraid.

Yes, that’s the htaccess file I renamed. No, it didn’t help. I read in another thread it may be related to the Varnish cache my host uses on WP installs. Alas, I don’t have shell access to run the command he suggested to fix the issue so I’m waiting on my host to contact me.
