• I tried to update yesterday to the newer version of WP and now I’m getting an ‘installation error’ and my blog has disappeared. I tried ‘rolling back’ to an older version, but my blog is still not there. I’ve tried updating several times now and it’s just not working for me. I’m not well versed in all this ‘behind the scenes’ stuff and I have a headache from beating my head against the desk. Any help would be enormously appreciated!!!!

  • hello Songberries.. we really want to help you but you have to be more specific.Tell us from which WordPress version have you tried to update and what versions of PHP and MYSQL you are using.
You will get your answers faster if you can tell us your problem as detailed as possible.

    Woops, sorry ??

    I have WP 3.1.2 that I can’t get to update, and Server technologies: LINUX, PHP 5.1, CGI 2.0, PERL 5.0, PYTHON 2.4, RUBY 1.8.4, MYSQL 4.1, 5.0

Did you backup your site’s database before you tried to upgrade?

Yep. But I don’t know how to bring that back up. Sad, huh?

I am curious of a reply to this b/c I too am having trouble updating WordPress and I deleted my site once already. Here is my story (maybe advice for Songberries can help me as well b/c I know nothing about the backend of websites…I just want to post:)

I cannot even install 3.3.1…nor could I install the one before it :-/ I am getting this message through my admin/dashboard page when I try to update
“To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.”

I know my FTP credentials…even changed the password in godaddy then came back to WordPress to try and update it. What do I need to do? Do I have to go into godaddy and do a manual installation? That scares me b/c I tried to do something like that last week and I deleted my entire site. godaddy charged me $150 to restore it (they let me backup my site under my ftp file manager then charge an arm and a leg to restore it).

Why can’t it be as easy as clicking “update”?? I’m unable to do certain functions now, like updating plugins and using the insert gallery function; both of which worked just fine before these multiple updates (I’ve only been running my site since Nov and this is the 2nd update for WordPress)

Yes, exactly that. I didn’t delete my site (I hope) but I could have written the rest word for word.
