• Hello,

During last night all my websites have been automatically updated to wordpress 4.0.1
Some of them do not load whatsoever. Need to revert back to previous installation urgently, but can’t even get access to wp-admin, just keeps hanging like main root website. Can’t get also wp-login as well.

How can I do this to revert back to old installation?
    URGENT HELP PLEASE!
    Thanks!!

I could access wp-admin by accessing file directory and renaming current theme folder. This should be an issue with the current theme and new wordpress 4.0.1 because I have a backup on another domain name and happens the same, site hangs for minutes and then nothing happens….
Disabled all plugins and problem remains.

Thanks for your help solving this. I have no idea how to revert back…

You need to download wordpress 4.0 then via FTP first delete wp-admin and wp-includes, then re-upload the two folder wp-admin and wp-includes.

    Good luck

Yes, I found that information and tried doing on both sites with issues, no results ??

I have on server1 mydomain.com and on server2 mydomain.net (they are exact copies from each one and they both got problems after upgrading to 4.0.1

Disabled all plugins, activated default theme, and nothing works.
Could be from the server, but I have other wordpress installations with the same theme and others as well working ok.

I’m contacting now the hosting company to see if they can restore a full back from the server from the last few days to see if it works. Have no other clue…

So you downgraded to wordpress 4.0 and still have same problem, that would indicate it’s maybe not related to the upgrade. Can you post URL of one of the sites?

    One of the websites: https://sintraprivatetours.net/

Tried doing everything again today: fresh upload previous wordpress files (wp-admin and wp-includes from 4.0 or earlier), disabled all plugins (renaming plugins folder), and disabled wordpress theme (renaming current theme name). Checked .htaccess file as well, can’t find the reason for this problem.
Both servers are fine, I have other wordpress sites running on both servers, with this exact theme and others.

    Hi,
The site loads for me after a good 30+ seconds.
I can see that your site logo image is missing

    /wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Logo_Placa-e1407598904227.png
    and
    /wp-content/themes/goldeneagletheme/js/jquery.tipsy.js?ver=4.0.1

It’s possible that this is the reason, because it’s waiting to load these files before everything else.

The homepage slider images are missing too.

I, too, have a huge problem with this. The site loads but I couldn’t get into the back end until I renamed the plugins folder. Now I can get in but and https://Mydomain.com/wp-login.php shows me a blank page. I downloaded WP 4.0 and uploaded fresh wp-admin and wp-includes folders … what else to do, please? I have no alternate theme in the themes folder, but I guess I can upload one, if needed. PLEASE HELP – many thanks!!

Did the site work fine running version 4.0?
If yes, then I recommend to downgrade correctly that you not only upload wp-admin and wp-includes, but also upload the root directory files too, just make sure you do not upload wp-config.php (but it shouldn’t be in the 4.0 download file anyway)

Yes, the site worked fine with 4.0. I’ll try this and see how I do. Thanks!!

That went fine – thanks very much! What’s the easiest way to prevent auto-updating so I don’t need to get blindsided by this, please?

It’s always recommended to keep wordpress upto date, but if it break your site then that’s different. Hopefully, your theme author will update the theme as it sounds like it’s the theme causing problems.

To stop auto updates you add the following line of code to your wp-config.php file:

    define( 'WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', false );

Thank you very much – you’ve been very helpful and kind! ??

    Cheers,
