Private Posts get auto changed to ‘public’

I noticed this twice, all my ‘private’ posts are getting auto changed to ‘public’. I contacted my host (hostgator) and they confirm it isn’t a hosting issue and I agree with them.
How can this be stopped. It can be vulnerable
