• I am trying to use private pages and posts to extend to certain customers. The problem is, they are not showing up. It states a 404 error, page not found. This is really frustrating, as I have done it before recently, and it has worked fine.

Please let me know if there is something going on with that or something I can do. I really need my private pages and posts working for my page ??

    Thank You!!

  • Are you logged in while trying to access the private page/post? IIRC (haven’t used private pages/posts in a while), if you are not logged into WordPress, they will return a 404 error.

So- My clients have to have a wordpress account to be able to access my private pages?

If you set the page as “private” through the WordPress interface, yes. That’s what “private” pages are in WordPress taxonomy. They are pages that can only be viewed by logged in users.

If you want pages to be visible to people that aren’t logged in, they have to be published as public pages. Then, to make sure those posts/pages don’t show up in searches or navigation, you’ll probably need a handful of plugins and might need to modify your theme.
