Private page re-directs to page with similar name

I have a customer area set up on my website which uses the Role Scoper plugin.

I have five private pages.

When one of these pages is selected by a user who does not have permission to view them, the page re-directs to a non-private page that has a very similar name rather than showing the 404 page.

Any ideas why this may happen?
