Private Forums

  • Hi there,

    Here is my case:

    I run a raiding guild in world of warcraft. Therefore there is a few things that I need to be able to do while running a website.

    1) Run a blogging system with a personal design. [Easy with wordpress]

    2) Run a forum with private forums which only certain forum members can access. [Difficult]

    I’ve been trying to find a mod to bbpress that allows me to modify users permissions to forums.

    Ex:

    General Discuss (Public Access)

    Applications (Public Access)

    Guild Discuss (Hidden unless permission given)

    Officer Chat (Hidden unless officer permissions given)

    Boss Strategies (Hidden unless permissions given)

    I know this is available to be done in phpbb, but as far as i’m concerned modding phpbb is ridiculous. I have found more success in modding WP and BBPress to make it eye pleasing.

    I was wondering if anyone knew a few of key pieces of information so that this will work out smoothly.

    [A] Which version of WordPress do you recommend? So that when integrating BBPress with it I do not get a “/” after every apostrophe that I use.

    [B] Which pluggins I could use to make sure that people can still register for the forums but cannot view/post in the forums that I have not givin them access to. Also if possible have private message able to be sent to members.

    [C] Which event calendar I should use to smoothly post events quickly and efficiently.
