Your plugin seems to be a very convenient tool to manage multiple sites, but I am concerned about claimed privacy – it seems that at least some web requests are going through a 3rd party, e.g. via Automattic Inc (based on logged IP addresses) for capturing site images on the Manage Sites page.

I was expecting such (or rather all) requests to come from my own server, please confirm !

    Hi @eugene212

    We’re glad you’re enjoying MainWP.

We indeed use wp.com API for generating screenshots. If you wish to opt out from using this service, you can switch to List view on the Manage Sites page.

Once in List view, you can then disable the screenshot column to completely opt-out from the screenshots feature.

    Hi @bojankatusic,

I will follow your advice, thanks for the clarification !

As for the initial concern, is it GDPR compliant, i.e. would not requests for some data via 3rd parties violate GDPR compliance (similar to requesting Google fonts) ?

Apart from acquiring screenshots, is there any other cases where the plugin might engage 3rd parties ?

The API for the screenshots is indeed GDPR compliant. The entire extent of its functionality is making a screenshot of a publicly accessible website. The API does not collect any personal information.

Automattic’s Akismet plugin uses the same API to generate screenshots when you hover over the commenter’s website URL, and Akismet is also fully GDPR compliant.

Apart from that API, the only other third-party service we incorporate is Usetiful for our Guided Tours. Usetiful is also GPDR compliant, and our Guided Tours that rely on it are opt-in.
