    Hi,

I’m using the primary category option (woocommerce) and it works (shows) correctly everywhere but the product categories widget menu.

Is this an error or is this how it’s supposed to be?

And if it’s so, is there a way to make the primary category work on the product categories widget menu too?

    Thank you!

@egocefalo We’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue on your site.

Can you please clarify whether the issue you are experiencing is occurring with the WooCommerce ‘Product Categories List’ or ‘Products by Category’ widget? Also, can you please clarify in what way the widget is not displaying the products as expected in relation to the primary category setting?

    Hi @devnihil

The Product Categories widget is the woocommerce default single product page “categories menu”, it’s included with woocommerce and shows a list of categories and subcategories and highlights that specific product’s category. It’s usually placed in the “Product Sidebar”

That highlighted category is wrong (not the selected primary category).

Here is a screenshot which will explain it better.

    Hi @egocefalo

Based on your screenshot, you’ve set the primary category for that particular product as ‘swimsuit fabric’ and it is showing correctly in the breadcrumbs, but for the product categories widget, it isn’t showing the primary category set, but rather is highlighting the ‘nylon spandex’ category, but you want for it to highlight is ‘swimsuit fabric’ as well, is this correct?

Could you let us know which specific WooCommerce widget this is so we can try and test it from our end? We’ve attached a screenshot of some of the options of available widgets from WooCommerce – https://snipboard.io/aXbrNI.jpg

    Hi @mikes41720

    Yes, that’s correct.

It’s the first one on the left of the second row. Product Categories List

    Thank you!

    Hi,

We do know that the primary category should work in the context of the Yoast SEO breadcrumbs and the breadcrumb schema data, but after further testing, it looks like it isn’t possible to have the WooCommerce ‘product categories list’ widget output specifically the primary product category set in the Yoast SEO plugin, unless you were to heavily modify this with code, which is outside our scope of support. Sorry, we couldn’t be of more help here.

    Hi @mikes41720

I understand, thanks for your help. Anyway, can you recommend me a similar widget that does? A menu or so?

    Thank you!

    Hi,

Unfortunately, we don’t have any recommendations on any specific widgets that would help achieve this, as the ‘primary category’ is specific to the Yoast SEO breadcrumbs, permalink structure, and breadcrumb schema.

    Hi @mikes41720

    Ok, I get it.

    Hi @egocefalo

We’re sorry we couldn’t be of more help here, but having it display in the breadcrumbs should have a good indication as to what the primary category would be.

Best of luck in further optimizing your site! We’ll be closing this thread to keep the forum overview.
