    Hello,

When I am trying to set primary category, it does not work since about 3 weeks ago.

It only does not work in block editor, it would work in classic editor.

    Thanks.

We are sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with Yoast SEO. Can you please confirm whether you’re having the issue with the Posts, Pages, or a Custom Post Type?

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi,

    It happens at custom posttype.
I did not try in other post type.
    thank you.

    Hi,

Are you using the latest version of WordPress 5.7.2, Yoast SEO 16.3, and the latest versions of your other plugins and themes?

We tested out the ‘primary category’ feature for a default WordPress post, and it was working as expected.

We’re not sure how you’ve created your Custom Post Type (and if this is related as to why the primary category feature isn’t working), but could you let us know how you’ve created the CPT? It would be helpful if you could also provide detailed steps and plugins needed on how to reproduce this issue.

    Hi @imjinoh

We were able to confirm that the ‘primary category’ feature isn’t working for custom post types that use the Block/Gutenberg editor. The primary category just isn’t saved on post update. Note that this excludes WooCommerce products, as those use the classic editor.

This has been reported and will be fixed in the next version of Yoast SEO for WordPress v16.4. Please do update the plugin to the latest version when it is available, and check if the issue is resolved then.

    Thanks!

    Hi,
Also selected primary category with gutenberg editor does not apear primary in classic editor.
in classic editor it apears as no primary category is selected.

I was wondering if this is similar problem.

    Hi @imjinoh,

If Gutenberg doesn’t save the value, we don’t expect the Classic Editor to display the primary category correctly.

The bug report doesn’t mention the Classic Editor, but we expect the next release to solve the problem.
