• Hey Everyone,

I’ve seen this get kicked around before but never really resolved so I figured I’d throw it out again.

I’m looking for a way to navigate between the various galleries inside an album.

So for instance, I have an album named Flowers and within that album I have three galleries named Roses, Petunias and Buttercups. Once I am in a particular gallery I would love to be able to go to either the next or (if I am not on the first one) the previous galleries.

I would be able to click through images of Roses and then click to go to the next gallery and look at pictures of Petunias, all without going back up to the main Album page.

The problem I am running in to is that NextGen puts its galleries onto separate pages. I was hoping I could use something like the Next Page, Not Next Post plugin but that hasn’t worked so far.

Any advice or insight would be very welcome.

    Thanks!
    Daniel

  • You can create a template for the gallery and put the next/previous links code there, upload it to your theme and from the gallery page choose that template from the dropdown menu.

    Hey Tizz,

Thanks so much for your reply. That is definitely one of the things I’ve tried but the problem is that next/previous link codes (at least the ones I have tried) don’t know what the next page *is*.

I can’t seem to figure out a way to make all of the NextGEN created gallery pages be sibling pages to each other so that you can page through them.

Is there perhaps a whole different way to go about this?

    Thanks!

That isn’t the problem, it’s the way, just like WP does with single posts… next and previous, or titles if you prefer.
    The code is here.
(I’ve done a thing like that, if you want you can take a look on the site in my name, in the menu you find “Foto concerti”, click a gallery in the dropdown menu and at the end of the page you find the navigation links with the galleries titles)

    Hey Tizz,

I think the main difference between what I am trying to do and what you have going on is that I am trying to use the album feature.

In NextGEN you can create galleries of images and then collect those galleries into an album with each gallery having a cover image.

The reason this is a problem for what I am trying to do is because NextGEN is creating the individual gallery pages, they aren’t pages that I am making and then inserting the gallery into (like with a shortcode or similar).

Your example would be perfect (nice site by the way!) if instead of a drop down menu you had a page of albums with each gallery in your drop down menu being in an album.

Does that make sense at all? I know I have a tough time explaining exactly what I’m trying to do with this and where I’m getting hung up.

When I add the code to create the previous and next links they do not link to my next gallery but rather to some other page that WordPress is saying is next (and I can’t quite figure out how it is deciding that my “Map” page is the next page).

Either way, thanks so much for talking this through with me.

fireflip, thanks for tellin’ me “nice site”!
Well, dropdown menu is only for choose the gallery directly without open the album page. I have an album page (Foto Concerti), that’s the parent menu item, and in that page I have the galleries displayed.
You can do the pagination whether or not the galleries are displayed in an album page if they have their own page, so they are indipendent (indeed, the album page is a page itself that will be paginated when you reach the last=first gallery, the order is chronological), but if I understand well I think you know this.

they aren’t pages that I am making and then inserting the gallery into (like with a shortcode or similar).

So if the problem is this, you can create a page for each gallery and then assign them respectively in “manage galleries” section in each gallery (link to: selection).
But if you don’t want each gallery in a page and want them accessible from the album page only, then this is a different thing, and I can understand now what you say.

    Hey Tizz,

Yeah the reason I’m wanting to stay away from physically creating the galleries and albums is that I going to have hundreds of galleries organized into dozens of albums and that would just end up being a monster to keep up with.

I’m going to keep messing with it though and I appreciate your help.

    Daniel
