Previous posts with thumbnail

Hello,
I’ve searched the knowledge base and forums, but I didn’t find a useful respone.

I’d like to show some previous posts in my sidebar using thumbnails (post-related) instead of html links. I tryied using the excerpt, but with no results.

Anyone can help?
