Previewing a Post Continually Creates Revision & Enables Autosave Message
-
I don’t find it as a major problem, but I was curious if anyone knew if the following behavior is by design or if it’s just a WP quirk. If I have a published post (not “Draft”) and simply open it from the dashboard to review its content while in the Post Editor, if I click on the “Preview” button at the top right of the screen and select “Preview in New Tab”, it automatically creates a “Revision”, though no edit has been made. I say this because when I then select the “Edit Post” link and return to the Post Editor, this notice appears: “There is an autosave of this post that is more recent than the version below”. Even if I restore the revision, selecting “Preview” again displays the same notice when I click on “Edit Post” and return to the Post Editor.
This does not happen if the post is in “Draft” form, only when published. Also, a revision is not created and the autosave message doesn’t appear if—instead of selecting the “Preview” button—I select the “View” button (the button next to the “Preview” button that is square shaped with an arrow). It’s only the “Preview” button that creates a revision and enables the autosave message.
I even disabled autoave in the wp-config.php file, but the behavior didn’t stop.
