Recently, when customizing appearance, the preview pane only shows a very small horizontal window rather than the whole page, so it is not possible to see what you are customizing. This happens regardless if you use desktop or mobile preview, and same behaviour in different browsers. Initially, the whole page may appear sometimes, but after you click anywhere, it disappears and reduces preview to the tiny part at the top of the screen. There, you can scroll up and down the page, but only see this small window.

    See the screenshot: https://prnt.sc/owdkbd

  • Hello,

That’s odd. Can you try to disable/enable plugin obe by one to check for a possible conflict?

Thank you, it is certainly not OceanWP that causes the problem. But just for others to know:

First, it seemed like the culprit was the Google Ads plugin, but then it turned out that it was simply Google Adsense in itself, which caused this behaviour, if I put one ad on the sidebar without a plugin, using the code manually.

The strange thing is, at the moment, the behaviour is normal again – strange…

Glad to hear that it is fixed!

The problem, unfortunately, returned, and I have no idea why. I have disabled the Ads plugin, and even removed the manual Adsense-ads from the sidebar, and still the same thing. I disabled the only plugin that I have installed meanwhile (LuckyWP Table of Contents), and no change, so that doesn’t cause the problem. Yes, I do have Google Adsense ads on my page (header code, automatic), but who doesn’t?

Can you look into the problem?

    Thank you.

That’s strange. I tested the theme on my end but didn’t see the issue. Try to disable all the plugin and check it works or not. What PHP version you are using?

I left alone all the plugins, because I had the feeling that it is Google Adsense that the theme is not compatible with, and I think I was right:
when I switched off Google Adsense autoads (deleted the code from the header), the preview was working as expected when customizing the theme. When switched back, the preview behaved again as described above.

Maybe you can examine this situation? I can’t possibly leave out Adsense from my site.

    Than you.

Does it happen with the Google code or the plugin you are using to add the code? Can you try to add the code using the child theme to troubleshoot the issue?

Install and activate the oceanwp child theme. Copy the header.php file into the child theme and add the code there.

    This is not resolved.

I have the exact same problem. I don’t use auto-ads like the original poster, but manual place google ads. Only by disabling Adinserter can I see the customizer properly.

I am glad konsservi wrote, I was already wondering why no one else is complaining about this problem, there must be lots of people who use Adsense.

At the same time, the child theme suggestion seems too complicated for me, and I don’t see how that could solve this problem.

To answer the previous question: it happens any and every way when Adsense ads are enabled, either manually, or through a plugin, or through inserting autoads code into the head (which means, Google decides where on the page it wants to insert ads).

And yes, we should remove “resolved” from this topic for now.

Yes, I can confirm this. Google Ads conflict with the customizer. Only solution so far has been to disable the ads altogether. I’ve tried switching to other themes and they seem to be working fine.

Having the same problem ^see my thread above. It is indeed adsense related because I’m able to customize posts and pages that don’t have any ads inserted.

Hopefully there is a fix for this soon, it’s a pretty big inconvenience.

Yes, I hope it will be fixed soon. I really don’t want to switch to another theme now because OceanWP is, for me, the best for Elementor (is there any other free theme with so many customisation options? I doubt it).
