preview posts with thumbnails

  • i would like to set up a wordpress page similar to these examples

    where the blog posts show up on the main page as a preview. it has the thumbnail of the image on the left, title, few lines of text from the first paragraph of the blog post, and comment count.

    how can i go about setting up my posts this way? do i pick a theme that already has this set up (please recommend some if so)? or do i have to choose a theme and update it to appear this way myself?

  • You could take either approach you’ve mentioned. If you’re not familiar with editing themes then you should probably pick a theme which does it already – there’s loaded to pick from!

    rab, thanks! could you go into detail about editing themes, how difficult is it, i found a theme i really like but is it ok to tweak a theme that was created by someone?

    also going by the image i posted what would i do a search on in the wordpress themes? i tried thumbnail image, but i’m not sure if that preview post is called something specific i can search on?

    How difficult it is depends on how much you know! You should be able to edit the theme, check the licence issued with it.

    Start of by having a read through the Templates and Child Themes Codex.

    They images are, or should be, Post Thumbnails (featured images). Again, the WordPress Codex has some great information on these. They aren’t that difficult to implement if your theme doesn’t support them already.

    rab thank you so much for your help, i really appreciate it.

    i think since my knowledge is limited its best that i find a theme that is as close to what i like as possible with a gnu license, and then edit it as close to what i would like as possible.
