Preventing account sharing by linking subscription to a specific device

    Hi,
    Im currently building a digital news subscription based website using Pmpro. In order to prevent account sharing I’m trying to find a way to link your account to a specific device like your tablet, cellphone or laptop, like many other platforms do.

    Is there any way to do that?

    Hi Maria,

    Linking a WordPress account to a specific device is not a feature of Paid Memberships Pro. Adding this kind of behavior to your site will require either adding a 3rd party plugin with this feature to your site, or custom development to build this feature from scratch.

    Additionally, this feature may be difficult to actually develop as there is not always a great way to detect when a user changes devices. One thought is to track the IP address that the user is using to connect to your site, but an IP address can change for the same device based on several factors, such as the WiFi network being used or if a VPN is being used. This means that if a user tries to connect to your site from a location other than where they originally registered for your site, they may not be able to.
