Prevent table wp_terms update

Hello! I’ve a very annoying issue! The situation: i have a woocommerce site (very big, more than 12.000 products) and some products have a very long text attribute (1000-2000 characters). To do this, i had edit the wp_terms table, replacing the filed NAME from varchar(200) to varchar(5000). Works all fine but… when i have a wp major update, the varchar value come back to 200 and cut down my attributes! Are there some tricks to prevent that update edit this field?? thanks a lot!
