• OK,
so after researching 3 times on this issue I still have no clue…how in the heck do I utilize pretty permalinks in my google sitemap… It seems the site is no longer getting 404’ed on my tag pages
after installing a rederect widget yet when I up date my google sitemap with the sitemap widget It still only picks up the “ugly” permalink structure… and only about 2 or 3 urls… I believe this is version 7
but could be wrong… question = what do I do… and what if i just remove the two widgets and build a regular xml sitemap and dump it in manually to the home directory via ftp… arg…

  • I believe the google sitemap generator uses the “ugly” URLs because no matter what you set your permalink structure to, those “ugly” URLs will always work and forward to your pretty permalink. At least that is my understanding.

Ok, it seems the problem is solved via the 2 widgets solution = install xml-sitemap widget and redirect widget. go to permalink tab and select somthing other than the “ugly” structure… you know the one that shows page id=154 …. than update your sitemap and save… It appears that now
your urls will have a nice google friendly structure like my garage door blog
