• So I have been using this plugin for the past month or so since working on my website. It’s great, it means I do not have to load up a separate program and use FTP just to upload some files to a separate folder. I highly recommend this plugin, it’s a must-have.

Now, on the other hand, the free version has a pretty important core feature stripped from it. You can not use it to select files in a post. This means the free version really is only useful as an uploader, a tool to use instead of FTP now and then.

So I think at the end of the day, it’s going to come down to how much you really need that feature. If you are just looking for a way to organize while uploading within WordPress, the free version is perfect. If you are looking to bring that organization into other parts of WordPress, it’s going to cost you $30 at the least.

Since Media Library Folders adds files to your Media Library you can insert images into posts and pages using WordPress add media window. You only lack the folder tree UI when inserting files. Even if you deactivate and delete the Media Library Folder plugin, your files are still available in the media library.

Yes, You can select the files as you normally would in WordPress, that is a given. However, the free version of this plugin adds no functionality in that regard to bring over the folders into the post and pages which I imagine is what most people are using this plugin for. It’s a hassle to have to scroll through a bunch of files when trying to insert it into the post.

The only reason I didn’t give this a lower rating is because I find just the uploading portion of it useful and I don’t find $30 too expensive.

A suggestion I have would be to include that in the free version as well and find some other way to make a pro version. I would be much happier with it if, for example, it had a limit on upload size. Like free version has an upload limit of 10mb per file. Sure it means a person might need an FTP client to upload and do the sync thing with larger files, but at least the organization exists within pages and posts too. People who want more convenience can buy pro. It’s probably not the best solution, and you probably could come up with something better.

A lot of your 1-star reviews is because of this issue. Most people grab this plugin to specifically do what you have removed in the free version. It would be like downloading a gallery plugin only to realize the free version only allows you to create the gallery but not actually display it in a post or page.

Ultimately though, I think you are fine either way. It’s a good plugin. I get it can be tough to figure out how to go about doing the free version vs the pro version.

Oh, one last suggestion I would make. I notice there is like this huge fuss with 1-star ratings. It’s fine to explain that 1-star ratings can be hurtful, but I think one should really consider why these 1-star ratings exist. I think it’s very bad to try and tell people their opinion on something is bad or wrong regardless of the reason they hold that opinion. It’s always better to try and fix the problem they have rather than being argumentative about the rating they gave.

    Thanks for that review.

    So my search goes on.

I am searching for a plugin that helps me motivate my clients to keep their library clean/organized.
And therefore they need to feel the beauty of an organized library when it’s about to insert media.
As this plugin doesn’t come with the insertion in the free version and the preview look like upselling everywhere the search goes on for me.
