• ? It will generate a sitemap, but will not add a reference to it in the robots.txt file.

? It does a readability analysis of your posts, but does not allow one to configure the acceptable readability index. Unless you want your posts to be targeted at kindergarten students, the readability threshold is not set at a useful level and is not configurable.

? The plugin will evaluate your text and provide percentages (or counts) of problems. But it is not specific; it will not highlight or provide hints as to where in the text that the issues exist.

There is no obvious system for providing feedback except for submitting bug reports (and posting reviews).

  • Hi @alinod,

Thanks for using Yoast SEO and for your feedback. Please, find our comments below.

    • Adding your sitemap to your robots.txt is not needed as you have to submit your sitemap to search engines anyway, that’s why we don’t link to your XML sitemap from the robots.txt file. Please, refer to this post for more information: https://yoast.com/wordpress-robots-txt-example/
    • The readability analysis in Yoast SEO helps you make your text easier to read and understand. If you believe your post has been written well for your target audience, you can safely ignore the readability warnings. We recommend using the readability analysis, but if you want to stop using it, you can disable it site-wide or per user by following these steps.
    • Many SEO and readability checks include an eye marker that allows you to highlight the sections where the analysis identified a problem. Refer to this post for additional information about this feature. If the eye marker isn’t working for you, we’d kindly ask you to create a new topic in the plugin forum so that our support team can assist your further.

Lastly, users of Yoast SEO free can submit their support questions to the plugin forum which is taken care of daily by our support team. On the other hand, premium users can contact us via email for personal support.

    Hello @monbauza,

Thanks for commenting on my review. Your reply was very detailed and I appreciate that.

I was specifically referring to requests for enhancement, not support questions. The support forum didn’t seem like the right place for that.

In particular, I would like the sitemap to be added to the robots.txt file. I had already found your blog post on robots.txt and found the argument in favour of omission to be unconvincing. Google allows you to add a sitemap, but will not force you to do so. And since Yoast does not do the typical $baseurl/sitemap.xml, I thought that it was not being generated. I tried to enable sitemaps, but I found that it was already enabled. It took me some time to locate the fact that you are using a sitemap_index file. To find this out, I needed to click the question mark and then hover over a link. Having it in the robots.txt file would make it more foolproof for the SEO novices (like myself). Also, making the sitemap URL more visible in the control panel would be very helpful. Hence my desire to file a request for enhancement.

The on/off setting for readability is rather brute force. I don’t want to completely disable it because it provides a lot of very useful feedback (for example, some sentences might be too long). I just want to set the thresholds to reasonable levels so that I can use the correct terms and not try to phrase everything in baby talk just to get a green bullet.

As for the purple eye, some of it works, some of it doesn’t, and some of it doesn’t have a purple eye. I think the broken ones happened after upgrading to 5.0.3 (after Joost recommended to do so), but I can’t be certain.

In any case, I will take your advice and create posts in the support forum to address my concerns.

    Gord.

    Hi @alinod,

    Thanks for your reply.

For feature requests, it’s best to use our plugin repository https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo There’s already a feature request to add the XML sitemap to the robots.txt If you have additional information or would like to follow the progress of this request, you can do that here.

Please, feel free to submit your requests for enhancements to GitHub. Our developers will review them and decide whether to implement them when planning for updates.

    Thanks a lot!
