I sent a couple of emails directly, categorised as ‘Pre-sales’ enquiries, and got no reply. This is unfortunately deterring me from making a purchase as I’m now not confident that if I have a technical support request that I won’t get a reply either.

The nature of my enquiry was to do with menu colouring to show the user ‘you are here’ and ‘this is how you got here’. i.e. creating what amounts to a breadcrumb trail within the menu. My existing website, now 15 years old, was able to do this with with a ProjectSeven DW plugin, so its not new functionality by any means. I have read the release notes and it appears that the Pro version can do this and certainly the free version now has classes such as ‘current-menu-parent’ and ‘current-menu-ancestor’ correctly assigned to menu entries up the tree.

What I wanted to know, does the Pro version allow for customisation by way of background: and color: attributes for menu entries with these ‘parent’ and ‘ancestor’ classes applied. Are there any examples of a menu using this?

Replied to your email, but this is what I sent if anyone else is similarly curious,

The ‘breadcrumb’ trail I am referring to is indeed the highlighting of the menu items that a user has to click to get to where they are now. This functionality works on my existing website thanks to a DW plugin from ProjectSeven.

    https://www.ladybayartglass.co.uk

If you navigate away from the homepage you can see the menu items of the path to the current page highlighted in orange, and this functionality is at least 14 years old. I believe, from reading the release notes and looking at the css classes applied to parent and grandparent menu items that the pro version should be able to accomplish that functionality, however none of the screenshots of the UI for the RM controls show that it is possible, hence my enquiry.

Also, does the Pro version allow for different styling of menu colors and backgrounds on a per sub-level basis? So can  sub-level3 and 4 can be styled differently to sub-level2 for example?

    Many thanks,

    Hywel Harris

    Greetings Hywel,

Thank you for your detailed message.

We understand how important the breadcrumb trail feature is to you, and while it is not available in our current offerings, your feedback is truly valuable to us. Our development team will further investigate whether this can be implemented within the plugin. I will keep you updated as soon as I receive a response from them. Should there be any updates regarding this feature, we will be sure to inform you.

Regarding your query about menu styling, you can currently style parent menu items and submenu items differently. You can do that by navigating to RM > Menu > Select a Menu > Menu Styling > Item Styling. Please see the attached screenshot, where you can style parent and submenu items. However, it is not possible to style submenus at different levels at this time.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact us. We’re here to support you and ensure you have a smooth experience.

    Best regards,
    Sadiya

This announcement seems to indicate that what I need is actually possible. As I said, the correct parent and grandparent menu items are being given the unique classes of rmp-menu-item-current-parent and rmp-menu-item-current-ancestor in the free version. And the feature for the Pro version says ‘Added option to highlight active parent menus’. Isn’t this what I need to be able to achieve that ‘breadcrumb’? Showing the user the path to the current page?

Can you show me a screenshot of the UI for this feature?

    Hi @hywelharris,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the breadcrumb effect you’re aiming to achieve. The feature you mentioned, which highlights active parent menus, is designed to help with this and should allow the parent menu item to change its text color when a sub-menu item is selected, thereby showing the path to the current page.

However, it seems that this functionality isn’t currently working as expected on the front-end. After selecting a sub-menu item, the text color of the parent menu item isn’t changing as intended once the page loads. Our team is aware of this and is actively working on a fix.

We’ll make sure to update you as soon as this issue is resolved. In the meantime, if you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best Regards,
    Sadiya
