    I am looking for a plugin that supports importing an excel sheet into the plugin and displaying the data. The spreadsheet has merged cells and functions can your plugin handle such things. Also once the data has been imported can I create a chart limiting what columns or rows to use. Or is it better to create the necessary file with just the data to be used in chart.

    Both options will work.
    You choose the range of cells for the chart yourself.
