Pre-1970 time stamps?

I’m attempting to set up WP as a CMS and want to include reprints of old newspaper stories as posts. But I’d like the time stamp to reflect the original publication date of the story. This seems to be possible to a point: I don’t seem to be able to pick dates prior to 1970. Is there a way to do this?
