Thanks for the positive feedback and for your question. Thanks especially for your update with the note that you found your answer before I could get to it.

For future reference, there are two easy ways to find the MIME type you need:

    1. On the Media/Assistant submenu, pull down the Screen Options in the upper-right corner of the screen. Click the box in front of “MIME Type” to display the MIME Type as a column of the submenu table.
    2. On the Settings/Media Library Assistant Uploads tab, you can search by file extension or simply browse the table until you find the MIME Type that corresponds to the file type you’re interested in. You can also scroll down and click the “Search Known Types” button to display a large list of file types, MIME types and descriptions. There you can search on something like “Microsoft” or “Apple” to see which file and MIME types their products use.

I am marking the topic resolved, but please update it if you have other questions about MIME types for your items. Thanks for a question the should interest other MLA users, and thanks for your interest in the plugin.

I have a related question. In order to display pptx thumbnail, shouldn’t this shortcode work as well?
    [mla_gallery mla_viewer="true" post_parent=all mla_viewer_extensions="pdf,txt,doc,xls,ppt,pptx" post_mime_type=all size=full link=file]

Or do I have to specify mime type? The above short code works for everything but the pptx.

Having come back to troubleshooting the pptx issue after a few months, I had forgotten that I had already encountered this issue before. MS files don’t get thumbnails generated for them.

I have released MLA version 2.22, which contains the “default thumbnail” example plugin described in this related topic:

    Trouble finding Ghostscript path

As you mentioned, thumbnail generation is not available for the Microsoft Office applications; the default thumbnail alternative can be used as an alternative.
