Posts vs Pages and Permalink questions

  • Hello to all.
    This is my first post here, but i′ve been using wordpress for years now.

    I own a personal website using wordpress that i use to post articles and tutorials, and organizing fragmented information in general.

    I have this site for a while now and i write all the articles on my site in Pages. I only use posts to post that some stuff has been updated, or to tell when something happens.

    This weekend i was preparing a new article when i came upon a site on google that was saying i should always use Posts instead of Pages, because they can be categorized, and have more SEO privileges.

    When i went on studying about the subject i realised that some sites say i should use posts for everything, others say Pages because they have better SEO priviledges.

    Then i read another article who said that i should use at least one numerical part on the Permalink, cause if i used only %postname% as i like to use, in the future as the number of pages in my site increased, the overall performance of the site will be compromised since wordpress generates to many queries to separate what is page from post when you request a link.

    Posts have tags, categories and the latest ones appear first on the frontpage automatically.

    Pages can be separetadely linked on the main nav and the Custom Menu widget, giving me more freedom to optimize my site′s structure, but doesn′t store the date it was created and for some reason my site doesnt show the %post_id% before of the %postname% in pages.

    I′m confused.
    I admit the categories option on Posts makes the organization a lot better.

    I now have lots of pages on my site and is starting to get dificult to find quickly the specific page i wanna edit.

    To sum up, my questions are these:

    Should i use posts for the articles on my site? All of them?
    If so, is there a way to link them individually on menus (top nav and sidebar)?

    If pages are better for articles and tutorias about stuff, will i be loosing SEO privileges at all? And how do i get the %post_id% to also show in pages?

    This is no longer true. It was fixed some time ago.
