After much pain and trial and error, I finally got my blog published on Apple News. But the plugin stopped working seven weeks ago. Since then, every article I’ve tried to publish has been stuck in pending. applenews_support tried to troubleshoot it, but finally determined that the problem was between my site and the Alley Interactive plugin. Any advice? Thanks in advance. [email protected] [email protected]

  • Hi @philiped,

Have you tried resetting a post from the Apple News Articles page? If so, what happens once a post is reset and then published again?

In the plugin settings, I am assuming you have it set to asynchronously publish to Apple News? Could you try switching that setting to “no” and see if you have success?

Can you also try reentering your API key, API secret, and API channel fields to ensure that data is accurate?

Are you seeing any notices in the admin as you try things here? (What do they say?)

Let me know how it goes!

    Thanks, Amy, for replying.

Here’s what I’ve tried and where I’m stuck:

    –resetting and republishing… no effect
–switching asynchronous publishing from ‘yes’ to ‘no’ … no effect
–rentering API key etc… I know where they go, but I don’t know where the originals are stored. I’ve searched my hard drive. Would they have come in an email from Apple?

    Best, Phil

    Phil,

They’re not delivered in an email, no. You can access them from your iCloud News Publisher page. Go to Settings > Connect CMS > API Key (you can generate new with “Replace API Key…” if you do not have the API secret stored anywhere). Hope this helps!

    Thanks again, Amy.

Now I’ve tried everything you suggested—–resetting and republishing, switching asynchronous publishing from ‘yes’ to ‘no’, getting new API keys and rentering them.

No change. Still pended, all around. Apple says they can’t help me. They told me to come here. Have I reached a dead end?

    I blame Eddy Cue.

    Phil

Not a dead end yet ?? I wanted to start with those 3 things since they’re pretty easy to do. This next request might take a little more legwork but should hopefully be pretty informative. Please take a look at the 4 items listed in our “Getting Help” section: https://github.com/alleyinteractive/apple-news/wiki/Usage#getting-help.

The 4th is the most crucial to provide (if you don’t know where the error logs are located for your site, you can ask your web host.) But #1-3 wouldn’t hurt to have either if inclined.

    Thanks!

    Oh Amy,

Installing Xcode to try to get Apple News to work is a little more than I bargained for. But I did it. My reward: a long string of error messages. Does this make any sense to you?

    Phil,

Nope, I can’t say I know what that is referring to, sorry! You shouldn’t need to have the News Preview app (/Xcode) functional though to pull the information I need to investigate your current issue.

You can open a support ticket with your web host, and they should be able to help you get a log of PHP errors. It’s possible there’s a fatal error occurring during the publishing of the post to Apple News or similar.
