• I’m using your theme for a blog I’m developing at work, but am having some difficulty with the front page. I want to select the option of displaying no posts/pages, thus just having the slides and featured pages, which looks a lot neater in my opinion. However, when doing this, there is then no way of having a separate posts page. I can do this if I choose a static page as the front page, but then this defeats the original purpose. Is there any way around this? I’ve tried simply creating a blank static page, but then this still includes a lot of white space plus the sidebars. Apologies if this has already been posted, doing it for work and need help asap.

  • You’re nearly there. Set up the blank page (eg Blog)

Go to Customiz’it! > Front Page
Front Page can point to either a Static Page or your Latest Posts. So there are a few combinations that can be set (Home & Blog refer to Pages):
    1) Front page displays: Don’t show any posts or page
    2) Front page displays: your latest posts =Displays posts
    3) Front page displays: A static Page
    Posts page: –Select–
    Front page: –Select– =Displays posts
    4) Front page displays: A static Page
    Posts page: –Select–
Front page: Home =Displays static page
    5) Front page displays: A static Page
    Posts page: Blog
    Front page: –Select– =Displays posts
    6) Front page displays: A static Page
    Posts page: Blog
Front page: Home =Displays static page

Option 6 is what you’re looking for.

Thanks for the response, but I still think I must be doing something wrong. If you set the front page as ‘don’t show posts/page’ then there is nothing (or very little) under the ‘Featured Pages’. However, with a static page, even one left blank, this leaves a lot of white space and the left sidebar is still appearing. Is there a way so the front page appears in much the same way it would if you selected ‘don’t show…’ while also having a separate posts page?

    Thanks!

You may well have to add styling. Lots of Snippets to help you do it.

Customiz’it!>Pages & Posts Layout have settings around default sidebars, and whether to force them throughout site.

Do you have a link to your site?

    Hi,

    Yes, it’s here:

However, I installed a plugin so that sidebars only appear on certain pages, and that seems to have done the job as a workaround for now…

    Thanks,
    James
