  • While you were in PhpMyAdmin on the old server, did you happen to browse wp_posts to see if your posts are in there?

    I didn’t know I could do that. I just checked, and browse is grayed out, and under collation it says “in use”.

    … browse is grayed out…

    I’ve never seen ‘Browse’ grayed out. Maybe that peculiar to a newer version than I’m using. I’d check again to be sure, if you still can.

    I checked again, and it says the same thing. When I click on wp_posts in the side column, I get this error message.

    Error

    SQL query: Edit

    SHOW INDEX FROM wp_posts ;

    MySQL said: Documentation
    #144 – Table ‘./username_mbwp/wp_posts’ is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed

    So am I totally screwed?

    You can try to repair the DB again. Maybe you’ll get lucky.

    I succeeded in getting tech support from my old host to repair the DB, and successfully exported the SQL file and imported the posts into my blog. But it seems to have completely overwritten the posts I had made in the meantime, about three months worth. I started copying my blog to wordpress.com a few months ago, so I went there and exported a WXR file of my posts there. when I tried to import that to my hosted blog, I got this error:

    Sorry, there has been an error.

    Unable to create directory /home2/username/public_html/mydomain.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    What should I do now?

    That’s a file permissions error. Try this.

    Aha! I should have realized the problem by the address of the folder in the error message. That’s the address on my old host. Apparently, when I imported the DB from my old host, it changed the address of my uploads folder in Misc Settings. When I changed it back to wp-content/uploads, it worked fine. Thanks for your help!
