Posts in Page broken with new WP release?

    Hi — Thanks for your great work on Posts in Page. Unfortunately, Posts in Page stopped working for me a bit ago, and in testing using backups I was able to pin it down to something that happened with the update to WordPress 4.4. I updated all my other plugins and themes one at a time and all worked fine, but the update to WP 4.4 broke Posts in Page.

    It doesn’t fire an error — it just shows the shortcode now instead of the post feed.

    Is this plugin likely to be updated soon? I love it and use it constantly, and I’m running around replacing it with a lesser plugin at the moment.

    FYI, here’s the address of an affected page:

    (That’s a dev site and has automatically updated to 4.4.2, but the update to 4.4 is, I think, when it broke.)

    Thanks for the support issue. I’m not aware of any breakages. Investigating now and will report back.

    Have you tried disabling other plugins as a troubleshooting measure?

    Hey Tom,

    Okay, I’ve verified that the plugin is indeed working with WordPress 4.4.2. While I haven’t tried every shortcode permutation, I can see that the ones I’ve tried work like a charm.

    When I check your reference page, though, I can see problems with the shortcode.

    [add_posts category=current-deans-column show=1 h=2 full=true img=false]

    If you’re using Posts in Page, you’ll need to change the shortcode a bit:

    [ic_add_posts category=current-deans-column showposts=1]

    You have some other items in your shortcode, such as h=2 full=true img=false – these aren’t accepted arguments for Posts in Page.

    Ah, you see, the problem was rooted in the fact that I’m an idiot. Turns out, I had both Posts in Page and Add Posts to Page installed at various times, and it’s actually Add Posts to Page that broke with the upgrade. So I’m a dope — sorry to bug you.

    Thanks for the very quick response, though — is there any possibility that Posts in Page will have a feature to display the entire post anytime soon? I use the other plugin as kind of an enhanced category view (so I can do some other things with URLs and so on) and I’d love to do that with your fine, very functional plugin. ??

    And I hate to have created a topic that will scare people — is it possible to remove a thread from the forums?

    It can do this already – you just need to tweak your output template. See these threads for more info.

    How do I change the output template
    Simply copy the posts_loop_template.php to your theme directory and make changes as necessary.

    You can even rename it – but make sure to indicate that in the shortcode using the template=’template_name.php’.
