This problem surfaced soon, but not really soon, after I add wordpress networking. If anything at all is entered into an user’s profile biographical Info field, then any post authored by that user just hangs and eventually displays a 500 error. Have you ever seen such a crazy thing?

Here are some particulars, in lieu or a tedious description of trial and error trying to resolve this issue:

    WordPress network on subdomains
    VPS on Dreamhost
Previous use of CIMY Extra Use Fields plugin
If I create a new user, posts won’t work if I add any Biographical Info
Want to get back to using author spotlight widget and co-author plus plugin.

I have notes on what I’ve tried so far that I can add if needed

Have you tested on a different theme?

Yes. I activated the Twenty Eleven 1.3 theme and it exhibited the same behavior.

    Problem seems to be resolved.

I went into your dashboard again and disabled all your plugins.

While I understand your frustration, you’re using WP networked sites
(which is much harder to troubleshoot versus a stand-alone installation)
and you’re also using plugins that are proving to be problematic – here’s
the DB record for your active plugins:

    a:9:{i:0;s:33:”author-profile/author-profile.php”;i:1;s:49:”automatic-youtube-video-posts/tern_wp_youtube.php”;i:2;s:43:”export-users-to-csv/export-users-to-csv.php”;i:3;s:19:”license/license.php”;i:4;s:39:”options-framework/options-framework.php”;i:5;s:57:”reveal-ids-for-wp-admin-25/reveal-ids-for-wp-admin-25.php”;i:6;s:27:”user-avatar/user-avatar.php”;i:7;s:41:”wordpress-importer/wordpress-importer.php”;i:8;s:43:”wpms-mobile-edition/wpms-mobile-edition.php”;}

I suggest you re-enable the plugins one at a time and then try
    replicating the error.

I have reactivated ALL the plugins listed, save for author-profile.php which is called by co-authors plus plugin, which I have also reactivated. I am guessing that author-profile.php was running, sucking up memory and slowing down my site, prompting me to upgrade to VPS service perhasp sooner than was necessary.

author-profile.php is not listed with plugins, at least that I can find, and I looked both under the network and domain. So I couldn’t activate it. The rest have been activated without a problem. I did find the plugin via my FTP client and took a look and see that the comments refer to co-authors plus plug-in. So, I activated co-author plus plugin as well as author spotlight plugin, and everything seems to work and work much faster.

I had disabled my plugins earlier, but it didn’t make any difference, so I had reactivated those that were most important and that I needed. So, I am not as dumb as you might think.

Interestingly, author-profile.php had been disabled and backed-up by sucuri on 3/4/2012. After my site was hacked I decided to subscribe to their service. Looking at the backup, it has 13.8 KB as opposed to 6.7 for the current version of author-profile.php.

When I try to inspect author-profile.php_sucuribackup.1330907818, I get a notice that I do not have permissions. I can’t download it either. I imagine it contains hacked code, and I will delete it once deamjost tech support takes a look. I need to contact sucui to understand how this all works.

Also, mu-plugins folder is back, and inside it cimy_uef_mu_activation.php, which I believe sucuri had also sequestered.

I hope I don’t have further security vulnerabilities. Right now, I don’t need CIMY Use Extra Fields. It had been a way to catalog information about my users, but I’ve already dropped all its tables and data.
