    Hi,

I’m quite new to this plugin and I love its numerous features. But when I want to define a post’s featured image, I am sent only to the standard WP media library.
How can I select a picture from one of the albums?

Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry if ever I missed the answer in documentation.

The basic idea is that you enter a shortcode into the post/page content.
There is a hughe number of possibilitied to show a single image, a list of (sub)album covers, a gallery of thumbnails, a slideshow etc. etc. All by a relative simple shortcode.

To make things simple, the editor has a so-called shortcode generator, that generates and inserts the shortcode that corresponds with your selection(s) in a dialog.

If you use the new block editor, aka Gutenberg, click the + icon to add a new block, scroll down in the menu and click on the WPPA Shortcode tab.
This shows you two icons: an album cover and a camera icon, The album cover icon opens the dialog for the general – full featured – shortcode generator dialog, the camera icon opend the dialog for the single image selection dialog. Answer the question(s)/make the required selection(s) and click the Ready button. You will see the preview of what the shortcode will do.

The old style classic editor has the same generator icons on top of the edit window in Visual mode.

There are various ways to display a single image, without caption or with a caption like standard wp images or with an extended caption. If you use the single photo shortcode genrator (via the camera icon), you can configure the way it will render in Table IX-L of the Photo Albums -> Settings admin page.

Alternatively you can modify or enter the shortcode ‘manually’ in html mode in both editors.

Full documentation of wppa shortcodes is here: https://wppa.nl/shortcode-reference/

    Hi Jacob,
thank you for taking time to answer.
In fact, I have no difficulty to insert a photo or a slideshow into a post made with Gutenberg or with Divi, but… among posts’ characteritics/properties (on right side when you create a new post), under tags and categories settings, there is a button called “set featured image” (and it has nothing to do with featured images in a WP Photo Album even if wording is close). The picture I will choose thanks to this feature will appear on blog posts list. But it is a button & I can not enter a shortcode : it opens directly the media library, and gives me no other choice.
Is there any way I can manage to open WP Albums instead of media library? Or a specific shortcode for overriding this featured image with an image of a WP Photo Album?
I read all the short codes reference and nothing looks like a shortcode for overriding the featured image of a post.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Best regards,
    Xavier

Now I see what you mean. No, this is not (yet) possible, but I will dig into it to see if its implementable for a future version.

    Thanx for the suggestion.

What i can do is the following:

Add an option to wppa so that – if activated – as soon as you set the status of a photo to ‘featured’, the photo will be added to the wp media library, so you can select it as featured image to the post when editing.

If you change the status of the photo to something else, the copy will stay in the wp library.

Pls tell me if you want this, then i will implement it.

    Fixed 7.2.09.004.:

    Frm the changelog:

When the status of a photo is set to ‘featured’ it will be inserted in the standard wp media library, so it can be used as featured image in a page/post. Changing the status threafter has no effect.

Thanks a lot, Jacob! You’re quicker to code than me to read my e-mails, it’s just incredible!
