Posts Duplicating Automatically and Overriding Original Content?

  • I tried searching, but I’m not sure exactly what keywords to search for.

    This is really strange. I am creating several new posts on a client’s website to upload their content and after creating close to 30 drafts, I starting editing the keywords of each draft from the quick editor. This is when I noticed that several of the posts were duplicated and I know for sure I did not create the same posts twice. I knew exactly how many posts there should be and I went down my list of posts to create when creating each draft.

    Then when I updated the keywords on one, the duplicate’s keywords updated too. I tried changing the content of one of the duplicate posts to one that was missing and the other post changed too. I then deleted all the ones that were duplicates (4) to just start over with them just in case something funky was going on with those specifically, then it started happening to the other posts that were left.

    ANY idea what could be going on here? I have never seen this before.

  • @adaydreambeliever Sounds like a nightmare, possibly having to do with database troubles, or perhaps a corrupted WordPress installation. But first, have you tried deactivating all your plugins and changing to a default WordPress theme (like twentyfourteen or twentynineteen for example), and then seeing if the trouble persists? That’s usually one of the first things you should do when your site starts acting goofy.

    Please rule out plugins and themes as culprits before diving deeper. If you find that a theme or plugin is the culprit, then approach its developer for help. If not, then run the WP Health plugin, let me know what you’ve found, and we can continue!

    @littlepackage Thank you for the suggestions! I will speak with the client and see what we can do and update this post if we figure it out.
