• I recently moved my website (https://tf2strategy.com/) to a new host, and the transfer went smoothly enough, except that now every post and page (including the custom 404 page) displays a 404 error.

I’ve narrowed it down a bit. Given the front page and all of /wp-admin/ works, I assume it’s not a problem with the WP install, and since the post summaries display and the forums are still up, I guess it’s not a database problem.

I’ve been reading various forum posts, and everyone seems to discover that the problem is permalinks, then they fiddle a bit and it works. I’ve changed my permalink structure any number of times with no problems and my .htaccess looks like everyone else’s, but it still sounds like it’s the problem.

Can anyone help? Pretty please? I’ll be happy to provide any more information if I need to.

It looked so promising, but all that plug-in seems to do is refresh my main page every second and all the links are still 404’d.

Given that I already had the custom permalink structure, would I have to reset my .htaccess file to something BEFORE updating the structure with the Redirect plugin installed? Because I did everything in the instructions except that my starting structure wasn’t the default.

UPDATE: Well it works now… apparently my host installed a rewrite application that made it go. The moral of the story is that if you have this problem, get someone else to fix it ??

a rewrite application? can anyone explain this? I’m having the same exact issue.

    for anyone coming along:

I found that in moving my files, the .htaccess file wasn’t moved along too. so moving it back in, and making sure it has at least 644 for permissions fixed the problem immediately.
