• Hello all,

I checked the codex even for this, but couldn’t find the answer to this simple question! Maybe too simple.

What is the difference between Posts andPages?

I am a MoveableType convert, and I don’t remember anything like pages in MT…

    Thanks for any help!

  • The “page” was created from the demand by people for ‘static posts’. Uses such as “About Me” or “How to get in touch”.

So pages are really just posts that have a permanent page. Sort of ??

    I did miss that, thanks!

Does anyone have an example of a site that uses Pages effectively?

Seems like it would be good for what I am considering. Creating a list of locations with contact info, kinda like a phone directory… that would be updated by a few admins on my site.

Pages can do an excellent job when combined with the “knowledge” of creating different Page templates.
I’ve even heard about sites built only by Pages.
On my testblog you can see several examples of using Pages; note that the archives, search are also Pages, even if they are not listed on the right menu (=excluded from the list).

Shameless plug for my husband, but check out the “writing” section on his site. Pages work well for that, for him.

On my old site, I used to have jokes, recipies, web design tips, all setup as pages, and sub pages. That way, those things were kept separate from my blog, but still kept within the WP framework.

When Podz designed my blog, he set up a page for me to use to syndicate and display someone else’s blog. I kept adding more pages that diplay other blogs from relevent industry topics.

I think this is a perfect app for using the page feature. You can see it here: https://affiliate-blogs.5staraffiliateprograms.com/. Everything except the top link under 5 Star blog network (right nav) is a page displaying one or more other blogs by topic.

Cool, looks like pages is exactly what I want to use for my site.

This is amazing. I think I can create my entire website in WordPress, without once having to create any static pages on my own.

Ah, I will be adding a discussion forum using some other package software I’m sure but… otherwise, WordPress seems to be able to handle it all!

    Wonderful!
