%postname%, permalinks, and <?php the_title(); ?>

Hi,

I created a custom layout… i am using the <?php the_title(); ?> include to attach to my body id. This allows me to highlight part of my nav for that page.

How can i call the %postname% in my header file instead of my title… would <?php the_postname(); ?> work? is there a pho snippet like this?
