• Is there any tutorial on how to blog via email for version 1.5? Or is the tutorial for version 1.2 applicable?

  • Blogging by email did not change, so the 1.2 version should be fine.

It’s a very easy concept, I don’t think a tutorial is needed. You’ll need to set up an email address on your website administration panel. Are you using cPanel, or another? If cPanel, click the “Mail” icon >> “Manage/Add/Remove Accounts” >> “Add Account” at the bottom of the page. Then, select an alphanumeric address that only you know (if anyone else sends mail to this account, it will be posted on your site, so you don’t want anyone to know its address). A sequence of capital and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols is best. Do the same for the password.

Then, on your wp-admin interface, select “Options”, “Writing”, then go to the second section of the page titled “Writing by e-mail” and enter the email address you just created as the “Login name:” and enter the password for it under “Password:”. Your mail server should be something like “mail.<your domain>.com”. The port is 110. Then select which category you want the posts to go to. Let me know how it works for you.

    Hi Jonathan,

I have just set up the email posting and it works fine except that it won’t post unless I actually go to the wp-mail file and open it…then it immediately posts anything in the file.

Is there a way to have it post without me having to go manually to wp-mail and activating it? I’ve heard some mention they set up a cron-job for this, but I have never used the cron feature but it seems fairly simple…except I need to know the code for the action I want executed…any links to a non techie guide to doing this?

    Thanks.
    Al

do you have mod_rewrite and .htaccess availiable? I cannot do posting via email because of that ^^

I think that the cron code is something like:
    get /path/to/wpinstall/wp-mail.php

what do i change in the mail.php file to get it to run?

for ‘mailserver_port’ do I just cgange that to ‘110’ for example?

If you haven’t seen this you might want to take a look:

I succed in making blogging by e-mails working for me. But, unhappily, it will not accept diacritic characters, like the one we use in french : ???¨???¢?′???????ˉ?§…

And it will only accept text e-mails. Please tell me if something could be done for that … Thanks a lot.
