• How can you post poetry without the form being interrupted?

This is very important, because form is half of the value of poetry.

I either end up with everything double spaced and no stanzas or everything single spaced with no stanzas. Is there a plug-in I need, or do I need to learn how to code it properly, or what?

I have searched the forums and not found anything like what I’m looking for, so if you have dealt with this, a link would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • One return (enter) or shift-return should give you a line break (new line, no extra space), while two returns (enter enter) should give you a new paragraph (new line, extra space). Some themes have VERY poorly designed text spacing, so my advice is to try a new theme if the above does not work.

Yeah, that totally does not work. At all. If I type continuously, it wraps into a paragraph nicely, single spaced, but any enter makes a break between paragraphs, so it doesn’t matter if I cut and paste or type it in myself, it looks all wrong.

So the problem is the theme, most likely? Great. How do you go about checking for things like that within a theme? Should I just search for other blogs that have poetry on them and see what theme they are using or what?

This is very frustrating, because to me it should be a simple thing, but as with all things “code”, it is turning out to be more complicated than I thought.

My husband is my tech guy, and he is awesome, but he doesn’t know anything about poetry. We are trying to put our heads together to troubleshoot, but things get lost in translation, you know?

Should I just search for other blogs that have poetry on them and see what theme they are using or what?

Yes, this can be a good way to find a nice theme with good typography. Also check out the Preview feature in the Themes Directory to get a general idea of a theme’s text handling.

It’s also very easy to try out new themes on your site. See:
