Emails to postie mail account used to work, but now it fails to recognize & parse the email headers with the following notification in the subject line:
Corvidae Press: Unauthorized Post Attempt from
No “from” content in the above & debug shows: Postie [debug]: No ‘from’ header found

I tried this: Deactivated then Uninstalled Postie. But when I reinstalled Postie, all the settings were already configured so … this may not have cleared up any problems there. Still fails.

I deactivated 1.8.5 then renamed the Postie directory in plugins, then UPLOADED & extracted the older version you sent me the link to (1.7.32)
In my site Plugins I Activated 1.7.32, and found all my settings in place: users all listed, etc.
— although this is quite convenient for me, I AM NOT SURE THIS IS GOOD BEHAVIOR?

Anyway now SUCCESS: Postie published the email I have been trying to post for days on every previous test. Format is terrible, but that is my problem ??

Why not? I think you will find this is the way most plugin work.

I am ignorant of the ettiquette for WP plugins: I did not expect settings to be retained after uninstalling a plugin.

For my continuing education: are plugin settings stored in the WP database?

Thanks! Also have you been able to figure out the issue with the new version of Postie?

Yes, plugin setting are stored in the database. This is largely to support the upgrade process otherwise you’d have to set up all settings from scratch every upgrade.

1.8.7 has been released and should fix the issues when connecting via sockets.

OK! all seems well with Postie 1.8.7 using Socket: it now connects on my host & processed/published my quick email test: thank you!

Did not try cURL.

Thank you!

FYI I just noticed that the Postie success message for my test did NOT display the email subject line (of Test postie 1.8.7), but has empty single quotes:

Your post ” has been successfully published to Corvidae Press <https://www.corvidaepress.com/wp/test-postie-1-8-7/>.

Thanks. This will be fixed in 1.8.8 which will be released later today.

FYI as of 1.8.7 Postie uses the PHP stream based sockets not the optional socket feature. So everyone running PHP 5 should be able to use Sockets.

Good plan ??
